Banking hours extended

Working hours have been extended in the Reserve Bank of India as also State Bank of India and its associates, public sector banks and the designated private sectors banks to receive tax payments to government accounts beyond normal banking hours, according to a statement issued by the RBI. Thus, the central bank has made special arrangements at its local office to receive cash payments to the government up to 3.30 p.m. till March 30 and up to 12.30 p.m. on March 31.

However, payments in cheques and other instruments will be received up to 4.30 p.m. till March 30 and up to 1 pm on March 31. Also, special clearings have been arranged at the National Clearing Cell on March 30 and 31 to maximise tax collections and for prompt credit government accounts, the statement adds.
