1,500 new newspapers, periodicals registered

New Delhi March 30 Nearly 1,500 new newspapers and periodicals were registered with the Registrar of Newspapers for India between April and November 2006.

In an official statement, the Government also clarified that while it verified and approved nearly 10,700 titles from about 13,000 applications, it also de-blocked a good many.

As many as 5,772 titles verified by the Government in 2004 had not been registered, and hence were de-blocked.
