Tata Steel completes Corus buy

Mumbai, April 2

Tata Steel Ltd said on Monday that it has completed the £6.2 billion (Rs 52,700 crore) acquisition of Corus Group plc at a price of 608 pence per ordinary share in cash. The enlarged company will have a crude steel production of 27 million tonnes in 2007 and will be the world's fifth largest steel producer with 84,000 employees across four continents, Tata Steel said in a communiqué with the BSE. Corus' top management will continue with the enlarged Group, the statement added. The Tata Steel scrip fell by 5.67 per cent to close at 424.1 on the BSE on Monday.
