Higher risk cover sought for agri commodities

Our Bureau

Coimbatore April 3 A meeting of producers, exporters of agricultural commodities and government institutions has suggested exploring the scope of covering the quality risk problems of agri commodities, especially perishable goods, by the Export Credit Guarantee Corporation, subsidising the freight for mango and banana exported from Tamil Nadu.

The meeting held recently at the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) here also recommended that mango growers could be given export incentive by the Agricultural and Processed Food Products and Export Development Authority (APEDA) and the National Horticultural Board.

Among the facilities recommended for supporting the exporters of horticultural crops from Tamil Nadu include establishment of plant quarantine offices closer to airports in Coimbatore and Tiruchi, creation of a single-window clearance of all export formalities for agri products exports and setting up of cold storage/reefer containers by Government.
