Kolkata, April 4

A new platform No.22 has been built at the Howrah Station New Complex at a cost of Rs 4.15 crore, says a press release. The 630-metre-long platform will now be able to accommodate long distance trains with 26 conventional coaches or 24 LHB coaches (Rajdhani Express).

The new platform is expected to ease the train congestion and will basically deal with trains of South Eastern Railway. However, Eastern Railway trains can also be accommodated if the need arises. Platform No.17 was commissioned on January 9 and work on platform No.23 is in progress. The latter platform is expected to be commissioned by the end of the year.
