Bangalore April 4 The Bangalore Unit of the Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd has reported a 30 per cent growth in its profit before tax (PBT) at Rs 376 crore for the fiscal 2006-07. The company's turnover also grew by 30 per cent to register Rs 1,496 crore. The Bangalore Unit consists of electronics division, industrial systems group and electroporcelains division. During the year, the Bangalore unit recorded an all-time high orders inflow of Rs 1,875 crore. At the end of the financial year 2006-07, the outstanding order book position of these units stood at Rs 2,885 crore, according to a press release.
Booking Orders
The electronics division of BHEL reached a major milestone in its power plant & industrial automation business by booking orders worth Rs 1,200 crore, the highest for a single year. The electronics division's significant business during the year included supply of steam generator controls, SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition), automotive voltage regulator and variable frequency drive system to the 500 MW Bellary Thermal Power Project, being implemented by the Karnataka Power Corporation Ltd. BHEL is also executing a contract for setting up the second 500 MW unit at the Bellary Power Project and had secured a contract for supplying and commissioning similar systems for the eighth unit of 250 MW at the Raichur Thermal Power Station of KPCL.
Single Largest
In a major boost to its efforts to tap the opportunities in the traction electronics business, the company has won the single largest order for supply of 50 sets of central electronics to the Indian Railways. BHEL has successfully carried out field trial of its central electronics & power convertor electronics for 6000 HP Loco, using indigenously developed Application Specific Integrated Circuits (ASIC). The Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) of the Indian Railways has approved the usage of indigenous ASICs manufactured at Semiconductor Complex, Chandigarh, with active participation of BHEL.
