Our Bureau

Thiruvananthapuram April 4 The Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle C-8 (PSLV C-8) will be launched from the Satish Dhavan Space Centre, Sriharikota, at 3 p.m. on April 23.

According to Dr B.N. Suresh, Director of Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), preparations are in full swing for the smooth launch of PSLV C-8.

The vehicle, the first fully commercial launch by the Indian Space Research Organisation, will place Italy's scientific satellite — Agile — into orbit. The satellite, weighing 360 kg, will be placed into Polar Synchronous Orbit 550 km away and then handed over to Italy.

Dr Suresh said that along with this, an Advanced Avionics Module (AAM), weighing 185 kg, would be launched as second payload. Both the satellites have been arranged for launch in the Dual Launch Adopter weighing 200 kg.

The AAM is being launched for conducting futuristic studies of electric/electronics equipment being used in aeroplanes and space vehicles, he said.
