Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC), the national flag carrier of Pakistan, has started calling at Indian ports after a gap of over 30 years.

This has become possible following the signing of the amended shipping protocol between the two countries.

The crude tanker M. V. Lalazar recently discharged 92,000 tonnes of crude at New Mangalore port, while another vessel M.V. Bolan discharged general cargo at Gujarat's Bedi port.

PNSC, according to informed sources, participated in the international bidding for the contract offered by one of India's state-owned oil companies for one-time transportation of crude from the Iranian port of Kharg Island to New Mangalore port to meet the requirement of the Mangalore refinery.

There were about half a dozen bidders, mostly Greek shipping companies, for the contract. PNSC has also secured another one-time contract for transportation of crude from Abu Dhabi to Chennai port, it is learnt.
