`No health hazard'

Preethi J

Bangalore, April 8

Are mobiles really hazardous to health?

Eminent scientist Dr Ingo Wolff said, "There is a 90 per cent chance that mobiles have no influence on health. Repeated experiments to confirm that the use of mobile phone had caused cancer, as claimed by some reports, have failed. And while there are studies and discussions under way across the world, I believe it all boils down to fear of new technology."

And what about mobiles affecting other machinery — in hospitals and in airplanes? That, too, is a misconception.

The scientist said that the standard warning one gets to hear on flights, that the use of mobile phones would interfere with the aircraft's machinery was unverified.

Airlines such as the Emirates are working on offering the service by the middle of this year.
