Shipping Info-Tech - Software Kochi port implementing software tool V. Sajeev Kumar
Kochi April 9 Cochin Port Trust is in the process of designing, developing, integrating and implementing an `integrated Port Information System' (`iPINS') together with associated support systems to improve the port's business processes and work practices. The implementation of iPINS will help to closely monitor the performance in all areas of operations and management and provide improved levels of operations and efficient service delivery to its internal and external customers, Captain Subhash Kumar, Deputy Chairman of the port, said. In view of the importance of the application software in the whole project, and its impact on the hardware, system software and other IT infrastructure, it has been decided to execute the project in two separate phases. The first phase will be development/supply, integration and implementation of application software and establishing IT infrastructure including data centre and data communication network, while the second phase includes hardware and system software in data centre including servers, storage and client side systems and peripherals. The Port has engaged the services of an IT adviser for the development and implementation of `iPINS'. The total cost of the project for the two phases is estimated to be Rs 13.11 crore, he added. The integrated Port Information System intends to provide one gateway for all access to port e-services and information to port users. There will be links between the Port Trust and the private Container Terminal operator, for the exchange of data with the iPINS on a regular basis. The total project is scheduled for implementation within 52 weeks from the date of award of contract for the application software, he said.
