Thiruvananthapuram April 10 Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) have announced a partnership under which BPCL will market certain BSNL products through the Bharat Gas network in Kerala. Mr S. Radhakrishnan, Director-Marketing, BPCL, said that similar partnerships between the two public sector companies had been launched in other States as well. As part of the venture, BSNL's pre-paid mobile recharge coupons, Sancharnet cards for pre-paid Internet access and IT calling cards will be delivered to the premises of customers by BPCL's Bharat Gas distributors.
INVESTMENTS
According to Mr Radhakrishnan, BPCL has approximately Rs 3,000-crore worth of investments currently being implemented in Kerala. Prominent among them is the expansion of Kochi Refinery, he added. Speaking on the occasion, Mr S.R. Pillai, Chief General Manager-Kerala Telecom Circle, BSNL, said the company currently has 60 lakh telephone connections, including 20 lakh mobile phone connections, in Kerala. The market for BSNL's pre-paid mobile recharge coupons in Kerala is approximately Rs 45 crore a month and that for the IT calling card is Rs 10 crore a month. Thus, there is significant demand for a service like the one being offered by BPCL and BSNL, he added.
