Our Bureau Pune April 12 The Maharashtra operations of Reliance Retail would be kick-started with the launch of four pilot Reliance Fresh stores in Pune. Talking to presspersons, Mr Gunendar Kapur, Chief Executive Officer of Reliance Fresh, said these four stores would be inaugurated on Friday. Pune would have six stores in total and the other two stores would be opened by next month. He said the four pilot stores, which are being rolled out across Pune, would have a total area of about 19,000 sq. ft. Each store would have an average of 20 trained sales associates and cater to fresh fruits and vegetables, staples, top-up grocery, dairy products and would also offer Reliance Select, the Reliance brand of products. He said currently staples would be offered in the Reliance Select. These stores would offer about 150 varieties of fruits and vegetables and stock about 60-70 dairy products. Mr Kapur said the company would be rolling out the Fresh stores in five towns in Maharashtra. These would include Pune, Nagpur, Nashik, Solapur and Aurangabad. The projections are about 125 stores by December. He said it would be covering 18 towns in Maharashtra over a period of time. He noted that this was a $300 billion market and Reliance Fresh would be catering to about 60 per cent. He said these stores would not be offering non-vegetarian items currently but would offer it in about three months. These would be offered in stores where separate enclosure and entrance and exit were possible.
