Mumbai April 12 The Hindu newspaper is among the Consumer Superbrands in the English language newspaper category for the Superbrands 2006-07 edition. The Superbrands is an independent global organisation rewarding leading brands all over the world. It was started in India in 2002. AC Nielson, a market research agency, evaluated and put together the results of the Web-based selection process. According to the agency, this is for the first time that Superbrands was validated by consumers, who chose their favourites from 1,699 brands. Through three stages of selection, first by the consumers and the other two evaluated by the Council for Consumer Superbrands 2006-07, 206 brands were selected across an equal number of categories. The 10-member council includes Mr Rajiv Bakshi of Pepsico India Holdings, Mr Nabankur Gupta of Raymond Industries Ltd, Mr Shantanu Khosla of Procter and Gamble and Mr Vineet Jain of Bennet Coleman & Co. The other brands in the 2006-07 edition include Park Avenue, Anchor switches, Jockey, Real Juice, NDTV 24X7, The Times of India and The Economic Times. Superbrands also announced the formation of a council for the second edition of Business Superbrands 2007-08. The members include Mr O.P. Bhatt of State Bank of India, Mr V.C. Burman of Dabur India, Mr N. Murali, Managing Director, The Hindu, and seven other experts from the corporate world.
