Govt okays upgrade of 996 km roads

New Delhi April 13 The Government today cleared a proposal to upgrade eight additional stretches - totalling 996 km of National Highways - under National Highways Development Project (NHDP) Phase-III, over and above the approved length of 11,113 km.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved the upgrading of 7,294 km of National Highways under NHDP Phase-III B on build, operate and transfer basis at an estimated cost of Rs 47,557 crore, which includes Rs 29,869 crore from the private sector.

The remaining amount of Rs 17,688 crore for viability gap, cost of land acquisition, utility shifting, consultancy, etc., is to be met by the Government.
