Meet on letters of credit

Our Bureau

Kochi, April 16

The Cochin Chamber of Commerce and Industry is organising a one-day workshop on `Towards UCP 600' here on Wednesday at Casino Hotel. The workshop will be a learning experience for anyone involved with inland and foreign letters of credit, export import trade and bankers, a press release said. Whether in inland or in international trade, letter of credit is an essential mechanism to facilitate payment and reduce risks. LC operations are primarily based on ICC Uniform Customs and Practice for Documentary Credits (UCP). Thorough knowledge of the UCP is essential, if one is to avoid pitfalls, identify and seize business opportunities, negotiate the best deals and extract the greatest competitive advantages from its use. After more than 12 years in operation, UCP 500 is being replaced by UCP 600 from July 1. Significant changes have been introduced in UCP 600 that demand closer examination and intensive study. The workshop will help participants in understanding of the clauses of UCP 600.
