Bangalore April 17

Infosys BPO, the business process outsourcing subsidiary of Infosys Technologies, has partnered with Karnataka University, Dharwad, to train students in communication and domain specific skills thereby increasing the employment opportunities across general education disciplines.

A memorandum of understanding to this effect was signed on Tuesday between the officials of Infosys and Karnataka University in Bangalore.

The Infosys Affirmative Action Programme focuses on aligning the needs of general colleges, faculty and students with the industry needs, thus preparing "industry ready" professionals.

Infosys, which is already implementing the programme in Karnataka, Rajasthan and Maharashtra, plans to take it to Orissa, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.

The Chairman of Infosys BPO and Director of HR, Infosys Technologies, Mr T.V. Mohandas Pai, said the initiative aims to help institutions help their students acquire additional technical, software and behavioural skills, which in turn would improve the employability of graduates. "This way we will also address the critical BPO industry business problem of attrition through a sustainable supply of quality manpower".
