Promote jatropha, says Minister

Thiruvananthapuram, April 17

The Agriculture Minister, Mr Mullakara Ratnakaran, has said that jatropha cultivation needs to be promoted in the State as much for producing cheaper energy as for job creation in the rural sector. In Kerala, where availability of waste land is much less compared to other States, the bio-fuel shrub could be grown either as an inter crop or raised in the form of a bio fencing, the Minister said while inaugurating the first of a series of `jatropha conventions' being organised by the Chakkala Community Association of India here.
