New Delhi, April 19

The Cabinet on Thursday approved amendment to the Indian Boilers Act 1923 replacing the provision of inspection of boilers during operations with introduction of inspection of boilers during manufacture, erection and during operation and maintenance in line with the present technological developments worldwide, officials said after the meeting.

The new Act would also clearly define the powers of the Central Boilers Board. The provisions of the new Act is also expected to bring in uniformity in standards of inspection and avoid inter-State disputes and would also provide for adequate trained manpower and laboratory facilities for inspection of boilers during manufacture and use. The amendments include excluding boilers below 50 MW capacity outside the purview of energy audit and also provide three level differentiation based on capacity of boilers.
