New Delhi April 20 Bikanervala Foods Pvt Ltd, the manufacturer and marketer of the Bikanervala and Bikano branded sweets and snacks, is in expansion mode in the western and southern markets. It is also in the process of setting up two manufacturing units in Ahmedabad and Hyderabad within the next two years.

"Having established our presence in the eastern and northern parts of the country, we have now decided to gain further footing in the southern and western markets. For this, we are already in the process of setting up manufacturing facilities in Ahmedabad and Hyderabad," said Ms Sangeeta Goel, Manager, Marketing, Bikanervala Foods Pvt Ltd. The company expects both units to be functional by 2008-09.

In terms of retail presence, Ms Goel said, "We are already present in India, Nepal and Dubai through 20 outlets, and we plan to add another 50 this year."

The company is also planning to go through the franchisee route, where the ratio of company-owned to franchisee outlets will be 50:50. "On an average, setting up each retail outlet costs around Rs 1.5 crore to Rs 2.5 crore, depending upon the area," she added.

Besides its widespread presence in the country, the company also exports ethnic sweets and namkeens.
