E-Governance States - Karnataka RTI helpline in Bangalore Our Bureau
Bangalore April 30 Good news for Bangaloreans the national Right to Information helpline (080) 666-00-999 is now in the city. Launched by Parivartan and The Manjunath Shanmugam Trust, it has migrated from Delhi to Bangalore with BPO firm MphasiS offering to run it for a subsidised cost. Queries on pension applications, ration card, tax refunds, police investigations and broader issues such as the poor state of roads will be answered. The helpline will be active from May 1 and will offer information in English, Hindi and Tamil. It will be open 7 days a week, from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Agents are trained to provide information about the RTI Act; guide as to how the Act can help resolve specific issues; guide the caller through the application, first and second appeal process; provide list of Public Information Officers and APIOs; as also provide contacts of RTI Activists across the country. The helpline, according to the release issued on Monday, has received over 7,500 calls to date from across the country.
