AP CM to open Satyam Vizag centre today

Visakhapatnam May 2 The Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, will inaugurate the city centre of Satyam Computers on Thursday.

He is also scheduled to open the circular train project at Kailasagiri, a major tourist attraction in the city, and a housing colony built by the Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority (VUDA) along with Vision Ventures at Akkireddipalem in the vicinity of the airport.

The colony, built at a cost of Rs 39 crore, comprises 155 executive type houses and 21 classic model houses.

The circular train project, taken up at a cost of Rs 4 crore, was awarded to Hyderabad-based Sarada Roadways on BOT basis.

The train will ply on 1.98-km track atop Kailasagiri, enabling the tourists to have a panoramic glimpse of the city, the surrounding hills and the Bay of Bengal. The lease period for the project is 22 years.

Dr Reddy will also lay the foundation stone atop Kailasagiri for the establishment of a cultural museum jointly by the VUDA and the World Telugu Federation at a cost of Rs 5 crore.

The federation will contribute Rs 3.8 crore, while the VUDA will chip in with the rest and undertake the construction. The Vizag-based automobile dealer Varun group has been selected by the Andhra Pradesh Commercial Taxes Department to receive the "best taxpayer" award in the Visakhapatnam region for remitting Rs 70 crore towards sales tax and compliance with the Value Added Tax (VAT) provisions during 2006-07.

The Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekara Reddy, will present the award to the group Managing Director, Mr V. Prabhu Kishore, on Friday at a function to be held in the city. While Varun Motors Ltd is the authorised dealer for Maruti Udyog Ltd, Varun Motors is the dealer for Bajaj Automobiles Ltd. This is the second time the company is receiving the best taxpayer award after 2001-02.
