HM strike: Workers' family members to take part in rally

Our Bureau

Kolkata May 7 Family members of striking workers at Hindustan Motors' (HM) Uttarpara factory will participate in a rally — from Howrah Railway Station to Writers' Buildings — on May 10 to press for the intervention of the West Bengal Chief Minister, Mr Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, to resolve the ongoing industrial relations problems.

Earlier, some trade union representatives of HM had resorted to a hunger strike a week ago demanding the Government's intervention to break the impasse at the company's Uttarpara plant.

"We will continue with our hunger strike," Mr Amitava Bhattacharyya, President, Sangrami Shramik Karmachari Union (SSKU), one of the five registered trade unions of HM, told Business Line from the Chuchura Imambara Hospital.

Mr Bhattacharyya and three other SSKU members were arrested by the police on Friday night on various charges.
