8,506 acres required; land acquisition in progress

Hyderabad May 9 The construction works of Rajiv Swagruha, a housing project for urban middle class in Andhra Pradesh, are expected to begin soon.

Out of 2,50,000 applications sold, 1,75,000 applications were received from different cities in the State and land acquisition was under way, Mr Botsa Satyanarayana, Minister For Housing, Government of Andhra Pradesh, told newspersons here on Wednesday.

"The highest number of applicants were from Bhimilipatnam (in Visakhapatnam), Anakapalli, Mangalagiri and Rangareddy while about 35,000 people applied from Hyderabad alone," the Minister said.

Plans were afoot to construct apartment complexes in Hyderabad and individual houses in other Municipal areas in the State. "There could be some variation in the final rates as they depend on land value in a specific location," he said. As per the estimates, total land required for the project was 8,506 acres.

"First priority will be given to identify Government lands. If needed, land would also be acquired from private parties," Mr Satyanarayana said.

Stating that the State Government had accorded top priority to housing, the Minister said out of over 19 lakh houses proposed to be constructed, works on 16.8 lakh were in progress.

"We are also offering Rs 500 crore additional incentives to the beneficiaries through subsidy on cement prices," he added.

To ensure uninterrupted supply of materials for housing, the Government had allocated Rs 150 crore for setting up Nirmiti Kendras in each mandal. "This will also generate employment to about 30 people in every mandal," the Minister said. To avoid payment delays, computerisation of entire construction transactions is on the cards.

"Within next 60 days, entire monetary transactions pertaining to housing schemes would be made online. A dedicated complaint cell would be set up to look into payment delays," he said.
