Opinion - Letters
Land acquisitions

The recent abductions in Orissa and the earlier Nandigram incidents point out the apathy on the part of the State Governments in conducting creative negotiations with the affected local people and the political and apolitical organisations there.

The friction between the locals and the company officials may adversely impact new ventures. It appears that the Government underestimated the needs of the local people. It is time the Governments meet the genuine demands of these people, rather than containing them with the use of force.
