Prices better at Coimbatore tea auctions

Our Bureau

Coimbatore May 14 The total offerings of tea at the weekly auction held on Friday stood at 3.97 lakh kg, of which leaf grades accounted for 1.53 lakh kg and dust grades accounting for the rest. Sources said that the demand was fair and overall price levels generally better.

Market sources said that the demand for the well made, larger orthodox leaf grades remained fair. Others saw irregular demand, which was lower in line with quality.

CIS exporters offered fair support while HLL stayed away from the market.

Amid some withdrawals, internal buyers and few exporters operated on orthodox dust.

CTCs firm

Select bright liquoring CTC leaf grades ruled firm to dearer, with exporters and internal buyers extending fair support.

CTC dust witnessed fair demand. The high-priced teas ruled firm, while others eased by a rupee.

Internal buyers and packeteers operated actively, while exporters operated in a limited way; blenders were absent.

The medium orthodox Nilgiris teas quoted Rs 50-60, while the good CTC dust grades fetched Rs 53-61.
