Ritz-Carlton announces first hotel in India

Our Bureau

Bangalore May 14 The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company LLC announced its first hotel in India on Monday — a 250-room, five-star property in Bangalore that is expected to be completed by early 2010. Developed by real estate developers Nitesh Estates, The Ritz-Carlton, Bangalore, will be set up in the city's central business district.

The tie-up also marks the realty company's foray into the hospitality segment.

The realty developer, however, refused to divulge financial details of the partnership.

Expansion opportunity

"India represents the next great international expansion opportunity for The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company," said Mr Simon F. Cooper, President and Chief Operating Officer.

The Ritz-Carlton, Bangalore, will offer restaurants, extensive meeting and events space, a luxurious spa and outdoor swimming pool, and an entire floor dedicated to high-end retail store boutiques.

Private floor

The hotel will also include The Ritz-Carlton Club, a private floor accessible only by elevator key, offering light fare and dedicated concierge service throughout the day.

Architecture firm Wimberly Allison Tong & Goo will be the architect, while Mr Peter Silling, founder of design firm Hotel Interior Design, will be the interior designer for the hotel.
