Shipping Shipping Corpn gets 13 offers for vessels tender Santanu Sanyal
Kolkata May 16 Shipping Corporation of India has received 13 offers in response to bids invited for supplying five offshore supply vessels (OSVs), each estimated to cost $16-17 million. Among the bidders, there are both domestic and foreign companies, it is learnt. "We've received good offers and the selection will be finalised shortly," according to SCI sources. "Depending on the yard, the delivery may take up to three years." SCI has plans to acquire five more offshore supply vessels, though not immediately.
ONGC requirement
Asked if the vessels would be used to meet ONGC's requirement, the sources replied that the option was open. SCI would be free to place the vessels with other companies if ONGC declined. Right now SCI has 10 offshore supply vessels of its own and these vessels are with ONGC for operation. These vessels will be undergoing DP1 (dynamic positioning number one) upgrading at a cost of a couple of crores of rupees each. "The upgrading of all 10 vessels will be completed within six months," observe the sources. SCI also operates another 21 vessels - 16 offshore supply vessels and five multi-purpose supply vessels (MSVs) - for ONGC, but the company is not the owners of these vessels. The contract for offshore supply vessels having expired, ONGC invited bids and SCI failed to emerge as the L1 bidder. Yet, the public sector shipping giant has not given up hope. "ONGC is reviewing the bids and nothing has been finalised as yet," the sources added.
