Workshop on medical textiles

Our Bureau

Mumbai, May 17

A daylong workshop on `Medical and Hygiene Textiles - Huge Untapped Market' has been organised by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI - Western Region) here on May 24. Part of technical textiles, medical and hygiene textiles are widely used in health and hygiene applications in both consumer and medical markets. Surgeon wear, wound dressings, bandages, artificial ligaments, sutures, nappies and sanitary towels are some of the known examples. There are other products too.

India holds enormous potential for the growth of this segment of technical textiles, according to FICCI. Contrasting with western countries, non-disposable products dominate the Indian market. With rising incomes and awareness, the market for disposable healthcare products is set to expand.
