Tata Motors vehicles sales rise 28% in 2006-07

Mumbai May 18 Tata Motors has sold a record 5.80 lakh vehicles in 2006-07. The company has also crossed the milestone of four-million vehicle sales since its first vehicle rolled out in 1954.

Announcing the annual results here on Friday, Mr Ravi Kant, Managing Director, Tata Motors, said total sales including exports for 2006-07 at 5,80,280 units were up by 28 per cent over 4,54,129 vehicles sold last year.

Sales of commercial vehicles in the domestic market increased by 39 per cent to 2,98,586 units. The company's market share in commercial vehicles increased to 63.9 per cent in the last fiscal from 61.2 per cent in 2005-06.

In the passenger vehicle segment too, the company had record sales — 2,28,220 units — an increase by 21 per cent over the previous year. Tata Motors maintained its market share in the passenger vehicles at 16.4 per cent. Exports increased by seven per cent to 53,474 units from 50,223 units in 2005-06.

Responding to a question, Mr Ravi Kant said that the feasibility study being conducted by Tata Motors and Iveco, a commercial vehicle company of Fiat group, is yet to be completed.

The two companies were analysing the feasibility of cooperation across markets in the area of commercial vehicles.
