Human Resources Xansa plans to double headcount, again M. Ramesh
Chennai May 20 `Xansa to double headcount in India' was the headline of a news story that appeared in this newspaper in July 2004. Xansa, a BPO company, had wanted to raise the headcount to 4,000. History has a habit of repeating itself - the company is now set to doubling its staff strength again. In another two years, Xansa will employ 10,000 people across its three centres - Noida, Pune and Chennai. Xansa is a BPO company listed in the UK, serving UK customers from its back-offices here. "We were among the earliest adopters of India as an outsourcing destination," said Mr V. Natarajan, COO. A fifth of its Rs 2,850-crore revenues for the year ended June 2006 came from providing `finance and accounting' (F&A) services. On July 1, Xansa will start providing F&A services to its latest and perhaps most prestigious client, BBC. "After (getting) BBC, we are the second largest F&A service provider in the world (after Accenture)," said Mr Manish Rathour, Associate Vice-President of External Communications & PR. BBC will be mainly served out of Chennai. Initially, 200 people will be pressed into service for the account. Xansa is hopeful of getting similar contracts from BBC associates, such as BBC Worldservices. The 10-year contract will fetch, according to a October 2006 BBC release, annual revenues of about Rs 70 crore. The contract will save the British media major Rs 160 crore a year. Xansa won the contract against competition from Capital, EDS and Infosys BPO. Mr Rathour said that close to two-thirds of the contracts on hand are long-term (for over five years). He ruled out Xansa coming out with an initial public offer in the foreseeable future.
