New Delhi, May 21

General Motors India on Monday announced that the company planned to launch a diesel variant of Chevrolet Optra TCDi (turbo-charged common rail direct injection) in luxury segment by next month. "We are in the final stages of bringing the newest member of the Optra family to the market. It will be manufactured at our Halol plant, which should reach Chevrolet retailers next month," said Mr P. Balendran, Vice-President, General Motors India.

The new Optra with a TCDi (turbocharged common rail direct injection) engine uses second-generation common rail technology, in which diesel fuel is injected at a high pressure resulting in efficient combustion and performance, said a company statement here. GM India launched Aveo sedan, SRV and Aveo U-VA hatchback in 2006. This year, it launched its mini car, Chevrolet Spark. Optra Diesal would compete with Skoda Octavia, which is being sold in a range of Rs 11.35 lakh to Rs 14 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
