Kochi to host global coir fair in Dec

Kochi May 23 The Organising Committee of the India International Coir Fair 2007 (IICF) has decided to organise the fair here from December 7 to 11 based on the recommendations by the Export Promotion Committee of the Coir Board.

Earlier it was decided to hold the International Fair at Alappuzha in October. The Export Promotion Committee of the board which met subsequently had advised to shift the venue and the dates for holding the fair taking into consideration a number of factors having direct bearing and influence on the success of such an event

The committee had taken a decision to shift the venue and the dates taking into consideration the level of available infrastructure facilities including availability of hotels the Kochi city is having, proximity to the international airport, important railway stations, logistic supports and consequent cost advantage, the minimum lead time required for delegate management, level of participation of various coir producing States in the mega event having national and international focus and the opinions of stakeholders.

It has been decided to ensure the participation of 75-100 buyers of coir from traditional markets of European Union, the US and niche markets in South America, North America and African countries, Australia, West Asia, East-West Europe and China.

It was proposed to organise the IICF 2007 with the co-sponsorship of Union Ministry of Agro & Rural Industries and Commerce and Industries and the state governments.

Arrangements

A press release from the Coir Board said here that arrangements are progressing at a fast pace to bring the maximum number of buyers from abroad and across the country and facilitate interactions with other players such as coir workers, manufacturers, traders, financial institutions, builders, architects and interior designers during the business sessions.

Papers of vital importance to the coir industry will be presented by eminent personalities in the seminars proposed during the event.

An international seminar on `Coir, Buyer Seller Meets', expo showcasing the capabilities of Indian Coir etc. will form part of the event. It is expected that in the wake of IICF 2007, there will be an additional export business of Rs 100 crore.
