Samiti plea on Mangalore airport

Our Bureau

Mangalore May 25 The Karnataka Dalit Sangharsha Samiti (DSS) has urged the State Government to provide more facilities to families whose properties were acquired by the Government for the expansion of Mangalore airport.

Addressing presspersons here on Friday, Mr D. Krishnanand, Convenor of DSS, Mangalore, said that the Government had acquired properties of 208 families in Malavoor, Adyapadi and Kolambe villages near the airport for construction of the second runway.

Terming the facilities at Siddartha Nagar and Souharda Nagar rehabilitation colonies as inadequate, he said the Government should provide additional facilities such as playground for the school, community hall for the people of the colonies and bus facilities to Souharda Nagar.

At least one member each from these 208 families should be given government jobs, he said.

Though they have submitted several memorandums to various ministers, their demands have not yet been materialised, he added.
