Mumbai May 28 Bharati Shipyard Ltd has bagged a Rs 418-crore order for construction of two new generation high-tech large platform supply vessels (PSVs), which are required for the complex operations by the oil industry.

First in Asia

Man Ferrostaal AG of Germany has chosen Bharati Shipyard to place their order for the PSVs at a contract value of {euro}76 million (about Rs 418 crore).

A company statement said only three such vessels are in operation worldwide and this would be the fourth globally and the first to be built in Asia.

Mr P.C. Kapoor, Managing Director, BSL, said the company's total order book currently stands at Rs 3,554 crore, comprising 41 vessels.

These PSVs come with a unique twin feature of being large and capable of higher speeds. These vessels are 105 m in length and are fitted with two sets of voith cycloidal propeller units at the stern powered by electrical prime mover for diesel electric propulsion.

Classed with Germanishcher Lloyd, the vessels will have free running speeds of 17 knots. The vessel would have a cargo deck area of 1,400 sq. m and will have a capacity of 2,500 tonnes deck load.

The company is in the process of building a green field shipyard at Mangalore with capacity nearly four times higher than the existing yards.
