M. Ramesh

The aircraft will have 114 economy class seats and 20 first class seats now.

Chennai May 28 Kingfisher Airlines on Monday launched two daily services connecting Chennai and Delhi. The flight leaves Chennai at 6.15 am — the earliest flight to Delhi out of Chennai — and reaches the Capital at 8.45 am. It departs from Delhi at 9.30 am and reaches Chennai at 12.05 pm.

The same aircraft leaves for Delhi at 17.55 hrs. On the return it departs from Delhi at 20.55 hrs and reaches Chennai at 23.25 hrs.

"A brand new Airbus A 320 has been pressed into service," Mr V. Raja, Regional Head of Sales, South-East Asia & South India, told Business Line today.

The aircraft will have 114 economy class seats and 20 first class seats.

Kingfisher Airlines is now mulling how to use the aircraft in the 6-odd hours it stays idle in the afternoon (maintenance work is taken up during the night). Coimbatore is a destination it has in mind, but a decision is yet to be taken.

Destinations

Kingfisher operates 14 flights out of Chennai daily. It has five to Bangalore, two each to Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Kochi and one to Visakhapatnam.

Meanwhile, the airline is in the process of retrofitting all of its aircraft with equipment to be able to provide live television during flights. Currently, a few of its 28 aircraft have this facility, but over time, the entire fleet will, said Mr Kesavan Sivanandam, Airport Manager, Kingfisher Airlines.

"The next step is to provide Internet connectivity on all our aircraft," he said.
