Reliance Retail's first hypermarket likely by July

Our Bureau

Bangalore May 31 Reliance Retail's first hypermarket — Reliance Mart — is set to come up by July, said Mr Bijou Kurien, President and Chief Executive, Lifestyle, Reliance.

The 1.8-lakh sq ft. hypermarket will house a range of digital, food and lifestyle products such as apparel and footwear under various price points.

The second hypermarket will come up in Gujarat, said Mr Kurien, who was in the city to chair `The Shop' — a conference on retail in South India. "The size of Reliance hypermarkets will be between 40,000 and 2-lakh sq ft," he said.

Reliance in October last year entered the retail sector with its `Reliance Fresh' chain of grocery stores. Today, there are about 169 Fresh stores in the country. "Reliance is opening about three stores a day," said Mr Kurien. It also opened `Reliance Digital' for electronic goods in Delhi in March.
