New Delhi, May 31

Nokia Siemens Networks has bagged a Rs 300-crore contract from Maxis-controlled Aircel to build and operate a greenfield GSM network in Kolkata. The contract includes turnkey deployment of the latest multi-radio flexi base station platform and managed services over a two-year period. This is the second major contract bagged by Nokia Siemens this month after it received a $500-million order from Idea Cellular. Mr Ashish Chowdhary, Head (India Sub-region), Nokia Siemens Networks, said: "The partnership will help Aircel in achieving OPEX savings and allow them to focus on customers acquisition and service strategies from the first day of commercial operations." This development further heats up the two-way competition in the Indian telecom equipment space between Nokia Siemens and Ericsson.
