Bapatla College implementing e-learning module

Hyderabad May 31 Bapatla College of Engineering in Andhra Pradesh is implementing an e-learning module based on a Digital Media Server (DMS).

"From this academic year, we are implementing a two-way interactive learning system based on Cisco DMS in our college. About 18 classrooms of the college would be connected online in addition to 40 e-learning class rooms," Mr M. Seshagiri Rao, President, Bapatla College of Engineering, told newspersons here.

SALIENT FEATURES

The module would provide the benefits of exposure to voice over IP concept, archiving of lectures, online interaction between the students and teacher and access to lecturers delivered from any remote location in the college, he said. The wiring works of the Rs 80-lakh project are under way. "The system would be in place by July. This will benefit over 900 students," he added.

ONLINE INTERACTION

The college was also planning to rope in experts from reputed institutes such as IITs for online interaction with students, Mr Rao said.

Mr Jagadish Mahapatra, Head (Western Region), Cisco India, said the Cisco DMS would integrate rich digital media creation, management and access for communications anywhere, anytime.

"This is the first tie-up for Cisco to provide DMS equipment to an educational institute. We look forward to many more tie-ups," he added. The Hyderabad-based Shell Networks is implementing the project.
