Arrivals pick up at Kochi tea auction

Kochi June 1 Tea arrivals picked up at the Kochi tea auction with 1,26,900 kg of dust and 40,800 kg of leaf on offer. CTC dust prices eased by Re 1 to Rs 3, while high growth orthodox varieties remained steady.

Price of medium orthodox was dearer by Re 1 to Rs 2. Blenders remained selective. Domestic operators also operated on good quality teas. Export enquiry surfaced for below medium CTC varieties.

Best quality CTC varieties fetched Rs 58-68, medium CTC realised Rs 50-56 and below medium fetched Rs 40-42. Highgrown BOPD varieties quoted Rs 110-116, medium BOPD ranged at Rs 46-48 and secondaries were at Rs 40-42.

Leaf Sale

Price of medium orthodox leaf eased by Re 1 to Rs 3 while high grown varieties remained steady to dearer. CTC varieties eased by Re 1 to Rs 2, while other high grown varieties remained barely steady. Good export enquiries were received for orthodox grades. Inter-state buyers absorbed most of the CTC varieties. Exporters were selective. Best Nilgiri grades ranged from Rs 65-85, medium orthodox was at Rs 47-70 and plain orthodox quoted Rs 42-45. Best CTC leaf was at Rs 50-58, medium CTC quoted Rs 44-46.

Top Prices

Kodanad BOPD fetched the top price in the dust segment at Rs 116, followed by Parkside BOPD at Rs 110, Mayura RD at Rs 73 and Shanthi SRD at Rs 74. In the leaf segment, Kodanad BOPF fetched the top price at Rs 132, followed by Havukal BOPF at Rs 130, Chamraj OP at Rs 117 and Chamraj FOP at Rs 108.
