Maruti car sales rise 11.2% in May

New Delhi June 1 Maruti Udyog Ltd (MUL) on Friday reported a 11.2 per cent increase in its sales during May.

The company sold 55,952 units in the domestic market, a 9.91 per cent increase as compared to 50,904 units in the corresponding period last year. The company exported 3,448 units (2,492 units), registering a 38.4 per cent increase.

During May, General Motors sold 5,432 units, 56 per cent increase, from 3,478 units for the same month last year. This includes 1,807 units of Chevrolet Tavera, 1,413 units of Chevrolet Aveo/U-VA, 212 units of Chevrolet Optra and 2,000 units of Chevrolet Spark, which was launched recently.

Honda Siel Cars India Ltd with its sales at 4,811 units, registered a 15.87 per cent from 4,152 units in the same period last year. It was followed by Skoda India that sold 810 units in May, of which 53 units were of SkodaSuperb.

TWO WHEELER SALES

In the two wheeler segment, Hero Honda Motors Ltd saw 6.04 per cent dip in its sales to 2,85,109 units in May 2007 as compared to 3,03,444 units in the corresponding period last year.

Last year, the company introduced eight new models and launched Splendor NXG this week.
