Telecommunications Motorola bullish on India V. Rishi Kumar
Hyderabad June 4 Motorola India plans a slew of models, while expanding its retail presence and reach for pan-India footprint. The company is gearing up for the proposed manufacturing base that will make it lot more nimble in offering customers a wider choice of mobile handsets. The company now has over 35 models and is poised to add a few more shortly to penetrate both urban and rural markets. The Director, Sales-India, Nepal & Sri Lanka, Mobile Devices, Motorola India, Mr Sudhir Agarwal, said: "In less than 18 months since the Motorola rebirth for its mobile devices in India, we now have presence in over 30,000 outlets and command over 400 service centres. The number continues to grow as we get more aggressive to enter untapped markets as operators expand." Bundling of handsets is a new growth area in India, and Motorola partners about seven operators - AirTel, Hutch, Idea, BSNL, MTNL, Tata Indicom and Reliance. Mr Agarwal told Business Line many of the products and features are based on what the Indian market demands. In fact, some of the features such as FM radio have been incorporated in phones sold in other markets.
To launch L9
Products such as Moto Razr, and L6 and L7 have made big inroads in the Indian market. For a generation of mobile phone users, who have used basic handsets over last few years, they are all looking at models that pack a lot of features. To meet the aspirations of such mobile phone users, Motorola is all set to launch L9 that comes with a longer battery life capable of handling about 400-500 minutes of talk time, 350 hours of standby and two mega pixel camera with zoom option. In addition, it has 4x zoom with video capability.
