New Delhi June 4 Escorts Heart Institute and Research Centre Ltd today announced its new leadership team, with Dr T.S. Kler as Executive Director, Cardiac Sciences.

The new structure and appointments for existing doctors at the Fortis Healthcare-owned hospital, comes after a public fallout and departure of its former Executive Director, Dr Naresh Trehan.

Between 40 and 50 people have given in their resignations, half of who are doctors. However, the management says it will not affect the momentum of the hospital. "Escorts had more capacity than required, due to the planned extensions of the hospital that haven't happened. We are thus not looking or in the need of new talent," said Mr Shivinder Mohan Singh, CEO and Managing Director, EHIRCL, at a press conference to announce the new appointments.

Tech investment

Mr Singh also announced a Rs 30-crore investment in technology. "Escorts Heart Institute has always been a pioneer in technology, whether it is in the use of stents or robot-assisted surgery. We have planned an outlay of Rs 30 crore for infrastructural technology in this regard to ensure that Escorts stays ahead of competition," he said.

Dr Kler who has been with the hospital since its inception, said that his efforts would also include trying to make the expertise of Escorts' available to the poorer sections of society.

Along with Dr Kler's new appointments in other departments were also announced. They include Dr K.S. Iyer as Head, Paediatric Cardiac Surgery, Dr Meharwal, Dr Yugal Misra and Dr Vijay Kohli as Directors for Adult Cardiac Surgery, and Dr Anil Karlekar as Head, Anaesthesia and Critical Care Medicine.

On Monday, the shares of Fortis Healthcare gained 5.06 per cent to finish at Rs 92.35 against its previous close of Rs 87.90 on the BSE.
