US tech varsity in pact for two centres in AP

Georgia Institute of Technology will set up two international campuses at Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh.
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the campuses was signed by Dr Gary Schuster, Provost, Georgia Institute of Technology and Mr Venkataramana, Principal Secretary, Department of Higher Education, Government of Andhra Pradesh in the presence of the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, here on Tuesday.
The Chief Minister said the university would be allotted 20 acres in Hyderabad and 70 acres in Visakhapatnam.
Dr Schuster said: "Andhra Pradesh was chosen for the institute's international campus after a stringent procedure adopted by their evaluation team.
The institute will go through the formalities of getting the approvals from All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) to commence its academic programmes in India soon."
Established in 1988, Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta has international campuses in France and China.
It conducts research and teaching programmes in management, sciences, architecture, computing, engineering and liberal arts.
