Fishing ban in 3 Karnataka districts

Our Bureau

Mangalore June 6 A 67-day deep-sea fishing ban will be in force in the three coastal districts of Karnataka - Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada - from June 10.

A Government notification said on Wednesday that the ban would be in force from June 10 to August 15 (both days inclusive).

The ban will be applicable to those who go in for deep-sea fishing with mechanised boats and trawlers and to those country boats that use inboard or outboard engines above 10 HP.

Strict action will be taken against those who violate this ban. The Government will not pay compensation in cases of accidents at sea during the ban period.

The facility of providing subsidised diesel to mechanised boats will be cancelled if they violate the ban, it said.

The notified fisheries diesel pumps have been asked to stop supply of diesel to mechanised boats during the ban period.
