The prices of petrol and diesel in Delhi have been increased marginally effective June 5 night. This move follows the State Government's decision to levy sales tax on the two auto fuels.

While petrol prices have increased by 67 paise a litre, that of diesel has gone up by 23 paise a litre. Petrol will now cost Rs 43.52 per litre (Rs 42.85) and diesel will cost Rs 30.48 a litre (Rs 30.25), an oil company official said.

The Petroleum Minister, Mr Murli Deora, had asked the State Governments not to levy sales tax on the incremental price, when fuel prices were raised last year. The Delhi Government had not levied sales tax on the increased fuel price then but has now decided to levy 20 per cent sales tax on petrol and 12.5 per cent on diesel.
