VW holds supplier meet

Pune, June 7

Volkswagen's first supplier conference was hosted in Mumbai on Wednesday and was attended by 250 suppliers from India and abroad. Mr Joerg Mueller, President, Volkswagen India Pvt Ltd, said, "Our objective is to establish VW as a local manufacturer and long-term business partner in India."

The Executive Director, Procurement, VWIPL, Mr Pierre Bruedgam, explained, "We will start our sourcing activities soon to find potential partners for VW in India with local as well as global perspective." The new plant at Chakan will have a capacity of 1,10,000 vehicles annually, and is expected to begin production by the end of 2009. It will have a press shop, body shop, paint shop and assembly lines. It will create 2,500 new jobs, a company release stated.
