Outlook Bio-Rad looks at 20% growth in India sales Our Bureau
New Delhi June 7 Bio-Rad, a California-based clinical diagnostics and life science research products maker, is increasing its focus on the Indian market. "We expect to see 20 per cent growth from our Indian market," said Mr Francois Capit, General Manager (Asia-Pacific). He refused to share specific sales figures for the country. The company has launched the Haemoglobin A1c diagnostic system, which could cost end-users Rs 350-400 per test. Bio-Rad, which crossed the billion-dollar mark last year in global sales, has identified India as an important market. "With the economic growth that India is seeing, and the increasing focus on healthcare and biological research, this is an important market that promises to be a classic success story. We also see India as a place to help build sustainable research," said Mr Capit. The company has launched a dengue diagnostic kit developed in association with the Pasteur Institute, and Mr Capit says that India can expect more products developed specifically to address the health concerns of the country. Bioo-Rad expects to launch two more diagnostic tools and introduce about 10 life science products during the year. "If you look at how we have grown in the last three years, our sales have doubled. We are looking at accessing clients more aggressively and directly," said Mr Dhiren Wagle, Country Manager, Bio-Rad India, the 10-year-old subsidiary. Having established its first Asia-Pacific manufacturing plant in Singapore in April this year, Bio-Rad has no specific manufacturing plans for India but is always looking out for opportunities.
