Rupee tumbles 42 paise on weak market data

Our Bureau

Mumbai June 8 The rupee shed 42 paise in value against the dollar on Friday thereby, paring much of the gains of the last one week.

It closed at Rs 41.13 against the greenback on the back of some weak domestic stock market data, besides moving in sympathy with the other Asian and non-dollar currencies.

"The foreign fund flows to emerging markets including India is likely to slow down as the US treasury yields hardened to almost 5.15 per cent, highest in over three years. The market expects that interest rates may be hiked in the US so the pressure on the dollar has relaxed," said a treasury head of a private sector bank.
