PHDCCI evolves e-governance solution

Our Bureau

New Delhi June 9 To remove inter-State trade barriers in the northern States, the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) is evolving an integrated e-governance solution.

The initiative involves starting an on-line portal for the northern region, which will provide public services to the citizens in towns and villages. The e-governance initiative is also aimed at making Government-citizens interface less cumbersome. This will be a step towards the on-going initiatives of the chamber to create a Northern India Common Economy.

This initiative will help inducting transparency and efficiency in the administration, provide a cost effective and efficient platform for doing business in an IT-enabled system, induct transparency in awarding contracts, tendering and e-procurement.

It will also make citizen-focused services such as property tax payment, registration of marriages, registration of new vehicles, birth and death certificates, payment of electricity bills, issue of ration card, obtaining rail tickets and voting card much easier.

The chamber is collating responses from the States and experts and is discussing with industry the broad contours of this information gateway providing a variety of services.

The State portals will be connected to a common data centre, providing for data sharing among the States on every aspect of industry and trade. That would make the movement of goods and services easy and hassle free within the region.
