Bangalore June 11 Cricinfo has finally entered the big league. From being an `informal network' of cricket enthusiasts "swapping cricket scores and statistics" online in 1993, during the early days of the Internet, to being acquired by sports and media giant ESPN, Cricinfo, has indeed batted a long innings so far. And the pitch is set for a larger score.

Cricinfo, the brainchild of British scientist, Dr Simon King, till date attracts millions of visitors from across the world. Here is a look at Cricinfo's ride since 1993.

In 1996, Cricinfo Ltd was officially formed. Its India division was set up in 1998. In 2000, Cricinfo.com was launched commercially with Sify picking up a 30 per cent stake with an investment of $37.5 million. Then, in 2003, Cricinfo became part of the Wisden group, by merging with wisden.com.

Cricinfo Mobile business division was established in 2005 in India. The company struck an alliance with gaming company Dhruva Interactive to provide cricket-based services for mobile applications.

Year 2006 saw Cricinfo's foray into the print media space with Cricinfo Magazine, a monthly magazine for the Indian market. In the same year, the company shifted its global headquarters from London to Bangalore, propelled by its huge fan following in India (about 25 per cent Cricinfo's visitor traffic flows from India. The Web site draws 6-10 million unique users a month).
